Answering Your Questions

We know that starting therapy is a courageous decision. We've gathered some common questions here to help you feel comfortable and informed, but please do not hesitate to reach out if your question is not answered here!

Do you prescribe medication?

This practice does not prescribe medication. If you are interested in medication management or psychiatric evaluations, referral resources for local medical practitioners can be provided.

How do I schedule a consultation or first session?

You may schedule a session by completing the contact form under the Contact page on this website, emailing mcmcounselingllc@gmail.com, or calling/texting 860-255-1278. You may also reach out for a complimentary 15 minute consultation and can schedule an initial session at that point as well.

Do you offer virtual or telehealth appointments?

Absolutely. We offer flexible telehealth options to Connecticut residents using a secure, HIPAA-compliant platform.

Please note that this practice is unable to provide therapy outside the state of Connecticut and clients receiving Telehealth therapy must physically be in Connecticut to receive treatment.

What is your cancellation policy?

We recognize that unexpected emergencies and urgent situations can occur. When possible, please contact the practice by phone, email or text message prior to your appointment to reschedule. For all non-emergency cancellations, we require at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations made with less than 24 hours’ notice, as well as no-show appointments, will incur a $50 fee. Please note that this fee is not covered by insurance and is the client’s responsibility.

We understand that emergencies happen and may waive fees at our discretion in extenuating circumstances.

Do I have to keep a credit card on file?

You are not required to keep a credit or debit card on file, however, it is a convenient way to pay for any fees or portions of services that are not covered by insurance, such as copays, deductibles or coinsurance. If you choose to keep a card on file, it will be stored in a secure HIPAA-compliant and PCI-compliant electronic health record system.

If you choose not to keep a card on file, payment will be due at the time of each appointment. A $50 fee will be charged for any appointment that is canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice or missed without notice. If a card is not on file, the fee will be invoiced or may be paid in person. All outstanding balances, including cancellation and no-show fees, must be paid in full before new appointments can be scheduled or ongoing appointments maintained. We reserve the right to pause or discontinue scheduled appointments until the balance is resolved.

How long are sessions?

An initial/intake session will take about 60 minutes. Ongoing sessions are about 50 minutes.

What populations do you work with?

This practice primarily focuses on working with individuals who are 18+. We specialize in populations experiencing challenges with anxiety, depression, life transitions, adjustment, stress and self esteem. If you are interested in therapy for a minor child, referrals to local practitioners can be provided.

Who do I reach out to if I am having an emergency?

This practice does not provide crisis or emergency services. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency or need immediate support, please call 911, go to your nearest emergency room, or contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.

If you are an existing client, you can leave a message, but please note that messages are not monitored continuously and should not be used for urgent concerns.

What to expect

01

Initial Consultation

During your initial session, we’ll focus on getting to know you and what brings you to therapy. You’ll have the opportunity to share your concerns, goals, and any relevant background information at a pace that feels comfortable. We’ll also review important information such as confidentiality, policies, and answer any questions you may have. This is a great opportunity to see if we would be a good fit for ongoing treatment sessions. These sessions last about 60 minutes/1 hour.

02

Treatment Planning

We recognize that no two individuals are the same, and your treatment should reflect that. Together, when you feel ready, we’ll identify what’s most important to you and develop a flexible, collaborative plan that evolves as you do.

03

Ongoing Sessions

In ongoing sessions, we continue building on the foundation established in your initial visits, focusing on the goals and priorities that matter most to you. Each session provides a space to explore challenges, strengthen coping skills, and track progress over time. As your needs evolve, we adjust our approach to ensure your care remains relevant  and effective. These sessions last about 50 minutes.

04

Completion of Treatment

Discharge from therapy is a collaborative and intentional process that reflects your progress and readiness to move forward. As you work toward your goals, we will regularly revisit your progress and discuss when it may be appropriate to reduce session frequency or conclude treatment. When it’s time to complete therapy, we will take time to reflect on the work you’ve done, review the skills and insights you’ve gained, and create a plan to help you maintain progress beyond sessions. Our goal is to ensure you feel confident, supported, and prepared as you transition out of care, with the option to return in the future if needed.
